Internationalising Product Development Know-How in Tourism

Duration: 1.6.2013-31.12.2014

The basis of comprehensive product development lies in the opportunities afforded by the working environment and the changing ways in which customers and businesses act. In the project foresight brings a new dimension from the starting-point of co-producership to emerging comprehensive product development.

Foresight directs product development towards the future and thus support a company’s future-oriented, proactive activity. The project makes it possible to strengthen product development know-how through research and practical development work carried out in cooperation with actors in the tourism sector regionally, nationally and internationally

The project activities comprise the following: international benchmarking and networking trips in the project’s focus areas (responsibility, foresight, experiences); identification and reporting of good practices in foresightful and comprehensive product development in tourism; launching of collaboration with international partners; and the integration of know-how in the research development and educational activities at MTI.

The outcomes of the project include an international scientific article, examples of teaching, a master’s thesis, piloting of the results at MTI and for tourism entrepreneurs in Lapland, and the launching of cooperation with the project’s international partners.

The project serves the aim of developing the expertise on comprehensive product development acquired in course of the project Integrated Project Development (2008-2011). In addition, the outcomes of the project will be used to augment supplement the previously produced Tourism Product Developer’s Handbook.
