The 2012 Thorvald Stoltenberg Conference and

Fourth BART project workshop in Kirkenes

The fourth BART project workshop was held in Kirkenes from the 2nd to the 3rd of October 2012.

In these two conference days, participants heard and saw inspiring and interesting presentations connected to the topic: The Barents region as a tourism destination? Panel one was dedicated to the nature of Barents tourism followed by panel two about the region- destination nexus and panel three, cross- border tourism. The next morning was devoted to Sami tourism in a sustainable tourism perspective.

On both days, BART project meetings were held. Participants from Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Monchegorsk, Sweden, Finland and Norway joined. Together we discussed the upcoming BART Action Plan, its layout and form of publication, its content and the time frame. The project members presented the drafts of their articles which will be published as an MTI special edition. It will be exciting to read them since the different partners bring various approaches, topics and perspectives to the publication.
